Silver carp processing plant

Already have one plant in the state. The cost of commercially catching these things cost a lot. Transportation to a collection center or processing plant cost too. The price in return is low.
Talking with family and friends over the holidays there were some ideas that half way make sense. Have a container set at every lake, like a Twice the Ice machine. You enter your information before you can dump fish in it, when you finish sign out. The info and weight goes to the processing plant and they know which containers need a pick up. You can deposit the fish for free or you can set up an account. Once you reach say 1,000 pounds they will sent you a statement and a check.
You got to remember that I helped some of these people go to school for a degree and fish comes from Capt D's.

Sharphook, you almost got it. Catfish farmers wanted a way to clean their ponds. MS farmers were using grass carp with good results. LA, AR and MO wanted something faster so the feds brought in Asian carp. Reports say midwest farmers, nothing eastern. The MS river flooded, flooding the MO river and a few more south. This flooded the ponds and the carp ended up in our water ways. The farmers should have better levys around their ponds. Kinda like buying a piece of glass and not having insurance encase it breaks during shipment.
This was caused by LA, AR and MO farmers. Look at those states to find what's being done to help. Processing plants? Collection centers? Research? The best I could find was, if you catch one, learn how to clean it and eat it.

I'm suprised they are not on they endangered species list and protected like every other pestilence.

Ky is leading the way with research, and has a dedicated Asian Carp team here at the Twin Lakes area ( Ky and Barkley lakes ).
In a presentation and discussion this past July, the Fed's finally admitted to their faults and ignorance about these invasive species. Once the backwaters flooded the commercial ponds and these fish escaped into the waterways, the Feds felt that it was fine due to these never being able to survive the Mississippi River, the climates, and the river environment.

Hence, we now have a major problem that a majority of people don't know how to remedy. Accountability was thrown out the rear window, and funding has been low and slow.

The KY Team has reached some new evidence that is probably leading them somewhere. These invasive fish do not like warm winter waters where bacteria can begin causing infection in their gills eventually dying. They also can not handle excessive oxygen levels due to their gills design.
Their gills are different that all of the native fish, so there are beliefs that things can be done in this arena with the gills being a target point.

The only solution is , bring in Snakehead fish. They taste better and will bite a spinner bait. ( so they say ) In time they will take over and eat all the carp and you end up with the better eating fish that can be also be caught on hook and line.

Glad they did something even though the State had to pay it for even after default . As one politician claimed it was he who bought the "Nissan of the north" to yalobusha county . :biggrin

Winsor Foods is doing real good, in the next 5 years they should be the largest employer in our county. By the way, smells good too, makes you hungry when you smell the food they are cooking!!

Nice to have these jobs come to MS where we appreciate them, to many folks wanna gripe elsewhere!
