Ive gotten almost out of the minnow buying business. Caught slab daddy feather jigs on clearance at walmart for $1/3pk and i cleaned them out. Slap a nibble on it and you can hardly tell the difference in live bait.

Down here in my neck of the woods, minnows run 14 to 15 cents a piece. I use them pretty much exclusively. Like someone said earlier, its all about confidence in what you're using. I'm not very experienced in spider rigging. I'm only into my second year, but those minnows perform MUCH better than my jigs.
I know minnows will out catch jigs trolling but I fished with a friend from North East Mississippi last spring that will no longer touch
a minnow. Both our wives had to leave camp to go home to take care of family matters so we teamed up. We kept 18, I think, and
I was only 2 fish ahead of him at the end of the day. One day I left fish to look for fish and at the end of the day I had only caught
2 and he and a buddy came in with a 2 man limit. For a while I thought I would be better off at home. I finally went in the camper
and turned the lights off. I left before light the next morning and stayed until 3. I was 6 ahead of him that day and things calmed
down. The day we fished together, I caught 8 or 10 white bass and he wasn't bothered with any. I also had a lot more throw backs. I am going to have to try it.
I just bought 200 round head jig heads from brimfisher on here for $10 dollars a 100 with sickle hooks and barb. So that should tell you what I think about the high dollar minnows. ....nonono
I don't get in this heat much but I have used 2 jigs and caught 3 limits this summer it's just too hot for me anyway but didn't use any minners or nibbles just use what you have confidence in and fish hope all of you are catching em
I guess it all depends on what you are trying to do.
since I have all the free minners I could use in a life time why not use them. if I had to buy them I would probably be looking for an alternative as well.
ROCK!!! Buddy ole pal! lol

I tried the Gulp fake minnows during the spawn. The fish seemed to pull the bobber under then let it go.
I will try the nibbles next but minnows I would like to avoid not because of the cost but that hassle.
I may even try making some nibbled just for the heck of it.
I fish from a kayak and I just don't need more junk. I even went back to one pole. Adding a minnow bucket is just not appealing at all.
The other problem is the bait shop doesn't open until 7 and this time of year I want to be on the water at 5 am and off by 9. The logistics get a bit annoying if you try and get the minnows the day before when nighttime temperatures don't drop below 85. Ice may easily solve the temperature problem but the extra 40 mile round trip drive can't be avoided.
