I have always tied a tight knot to attempt to keep the jig horizontal, but recently started using a loop. Will know soon enough if the change is working!

I love to feel the thump, but also like different methods as not to get bored with one thing. A good single poler will put the hurt on some fish consistently, more so than most trollers. And pulling cranks is about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on. A limit is a limit no matter the method as long as it's legal and ethical.

single poling is the way to go IF you are all about the Thump, which I am. Trolling is a great way to find and catch fish if they are scattered and you don't have a pattern. to each their own. was at Crappie U with the very uptight terrific Kevin Rogers and he says straight up, Tight lining is what he does and loves, he HATES spider rigging or pushing cranks as that is just work but he has won tournaments doing it and I totally agree if you are doing it for fun. but doesn't make one a bad person if they do otherwise.

NO BELITTING ANYONE FOR TROLLING INTENDED... By all means everyone should be allowed to fish as they like. This has always been a 'juicy' topic amongst us crappie fishermen :) Just enjoying the banter.. :)

Hey Guys...stay on topic..I don't care how you fish...too much banter on here..we need to get back to sharing information...Each person has the right to fish the way he likes...Do not criticize someone else for doing another legal method

I have tied directly to the hook eye since I started fishing. I don't like any extra fluff when I am finesse fishing. I don't even like hi-Vis line tied to the jig. Any time that I feel that the fish has a chance to study the bait, I want as natural a presentation as possible. That being said every one of my poles is rigged with a snap swivel. I always run a Flouro leader to the jig. Just pre-tied with a small loop at the top to attach to the snap. I will run a snap directly to a crank though, I feel that is more of a reaction bite. Maybe I overthink it, maybe not, but this is what I have confidence in and to me, THAT is what is key!

I just started experimenting with a loop knot and have mixed emotions. The jighead lays flat when naked but angles about 45° when a jig body is added. Maybe the buoyancy of the jig body underwater causes to bait to sit in a horizontal matter? Granted, whenever you start to stroll along the bait will sit horizontally, but sitting still.... I'm still on the fence.

I started out years ago and tied directly to the jig. For the past twenty years I have used the small snap from Slaters and I cannot tell the difference. I catch as many fish this way or more.
