    Default Pickwick Dam report!

Ventured below Pickwick dam to try spider rigging for crappie before my Tennessee license run out. We only catfish there so it was our first time for Crappie. Definitely not the big 4 size. Caught them 20 to 23 foot deep on minnows. Better fishing above the dam. I doudt I will be renewing my Tennessee license.
Biggest crappie to date is 3 lb 9 oz at grenada in 1988. Still hangs on my wall.

I was OK with that myself. Nice to be out and about anyway. But we can catch that size crappie closer to home. It's 86 mile from my house to the Dam and only 47 miles to Sardis. I can fish above the dam with my Mississippi License. We catch some good fish in the upper lake.

    Not
going to say you will not catch a Striper's below the dam right now. But most times, they start up in March and its on until Nov. But right now the lake temp was 51 degrees in Yellow creek. Not sure what its running on the main lake. And a week ago Monday the river was 49 degrees. So if it does not drop any lower then that. I think if a can can get fresh SkipJack or Shad. A boat load of 10 lb Stripers could be caught.
I caught a lot of short Sauger that Monday. Most were 14 to 14 7/8" nothing 15" for me. Was using Red 1/2 oz jig with white hair and chart plastic. There showing 60,000 CFM now and looking like Flood gates will be open by Tuesday. If so it will be one for Sauger for sure. That and drifing minnow for Big Smallmouth bass. Thinking Tuesday or Thursday going to try to put a hurting on the Smallmouth or the Sauger. And if I can get fresh bait a Striper or 4.
Be glad when that guy from LA gets moved up here. Need someone to be the dipnet man..

We fished all around the locks and between the locks. Caught 1 crappie along the long lock wall. Did catch a small catfish. Was hoping to catch a sauger. They were several people sauger fishing but I didn't see any caught.
