Congrats bird down!
The secret was the pole. We knew if we got bit it would be very very light. We had 16 ft bgjp poles and used a strait minnow. The minnows we used were smaller than small. The pole tip would move like it was in slow motion about 1 to 2 inches down and that's it. We had 13 bites and managed to get the net under all of them. All the bites we got were going in a specific direction at a slow speed at the same depth. So we just grinded it out and never changed direction. It wasn't a spot specific thing but more of a presentation
Great job figuring out the right presentation and pattern. The BGJP is the pole I used at the CM national championship and the bigger fish we caught hit just like you said. The tip only moved down an inch or so. We slung a lot of minnows off on false bites, but when you stuck one you knew it. I would have never seen those bites without that pole. Everyone seems to be gravitating towards the soft tip with lots of backbone style poles and that's ok when they hammer it. (I use the PST with the C&C tip for this style pole). The backbone kills you when they barely hit it tho. The tips might be soft on that type of pole, but when the fish feels that backbone on them they let it go. No better pole than the BGJP on a light bite. It's got just the right amount of tip/backbone for the tough jobs.
