I run whatever size crank I want to whatever depth I want with the aid of an Offshore Tadpole. For shallow fish, a planer is hard to beat. Don't need a ton of line out to keep from spooking the fish. Just run the boards out the side as far away from the boat as you want.
I don't fish clear water often so I don't worry about getting the bait further from the boat, caught fish with 5 foot of line out on a 5 foot rod sticking straight off the side of the boat, kinda crazy to just pick the fish up in the boat when you pick the pole up.
There are days that the 200 out performs the 300, just something about it, but more often as not I can't tell any difference
I would think the difference in the dive lip gives the 200 a different (tighter) wobble.Quote:

I use 100s,200s, 300s, 250s in Bandits. Strike Kings, Normans, Wiggle Warts, about 8 different Chinese models from some that are 1 1/4" long to c55s, I even have some old Hellbenders folks have picked up for me at yard sales and I've repainted, 4A-6A-8A Bombers,Rattle Traps, if it was made and I can paint it, I'll use it.
My theory is the fish get used to colors, actions, sounds,depths, profiles so I always want to have something totally different to drop over the side to them. My average crappie is typically caught much shallower than folks would imagine. I think most beginners worry far too much about getting baits as deep as possible and pay zero attention to their electronics. 2D is your friend pulling cranks.
I'm on the other end of the thought that the fish get used to a style of crank. With a billion crappie in a lake, I think it just boils down to the action they like better on a certain day. I doubt all of those fish have seen a crank bait of any style, and with a brain the size of a needles point, I doubt they could remember it if they did. [emoji4]

The c55s are the ones I use so much that are slightly larger than a 300 Bandit and dive slightly deeper. Secret is they don't always have to be as deep as they will go.
When my wife and I won that KY Lake tournament last Sept we were running c55s 30 feet back. They wanted the big bait and action just not as deep as most folks thought.
I totally agree. For some reason most folks hear the word crankbait and immediately think hunert foot back. I call it dumpster diving for crappie. In most cases all your doing is working yourself to death and aggravating the catfish and goo for no reason. This year is the first time in the last six years that my line counter has seen three digits to set depth.Quote:

A lot of people run crank baits too deep.
