I agree with Mrdux about the Opti Tackle planer boards. Easy to see, they make a medium size board that works really well for crappie, and they run as true as anything out there for about half the price.

These are the medium boards below with the spring loaded flag on them. They come that way if you order the 491 and 591 boards.

Will the crappie consistently trip the boards? That is really my only problem with the Water Bugz.

They won't always trip the releases but if you put some slack in the line between the releases so there is a more direct pull on the back release that is attached to the flag spring, you will see the flag go back.

I wrap my front release and put the slack in the line between the front and rear release. I don't have any trouble seeing the flag go down.
