Default Enid Thursday June 23rd report

Well decided to get up before the crack of dawn and drive up to Enid to meet armyman and give the crappie a try. It was my first time to fish Enid but we fish for several hours and call probably 30 or so crappie. would've been probably four keepers if we had not thrown two back thinking we were going to go ahead and leave but wound up staying a while longer. The wind was southwest to west up to 10 so it did limit of areas of fishing. Had a great time.

At one point we had a bad tangle and I committed the cardinal sin of stopping the trolling motor while we were working on it and we wound up losing a rod in the water. Oh well there goes a rod.

After working on the tangle for probably 10 minutes I have one tamgle left to untangle and I noticed that it had something heavy coming on it but did not feel like a crank bait so I figured I was driaggng in a limb or something from the bottom. But low and behold that crank bait somehow caught the line from the rod that had gone for a swim.

So the totals for the day were probably 30 or so 11 to 11 and three-quarter inch fish and four total keepers and one 14 ft rod with a brand-new Shakespeare ATS line counter reel on it.

Just might have to go to the casino tonight

Biggest crappie to date is 3 lb 9 oz at grenada in 1988. Still hangs on my wall.

I think 99% of the crappie in Enid are 11 3/4.

The only thing that saved that rod with that brand new reel was committing that "cardinal sin" by stopping while pulling 6 crankbaits in a 10+ mph wind! Good report, Jim!

Sounds like a good time! And thanks for the reminder about sinking rods and reels. Been meaning to go buy some noodles as floats for mine, I'm going this morning to pick some up. Thanks for the report!!

Get some 1/2 in pipe insulation, cut about a ft and put it right in front of reel. Then tape down good and tight with electrical tape.
