    Default Gel Battery's

I know there expensive . But I have been thinking about spending the money and getting gel for my boat . I like the idea that you don't have to keep a watch on your water levels and they don't have corrosion problems . If you have any thoughts pro are con please speak up . Thanks

    #1 expensive

    #2 need special charger

#3 most do not have the reserve capacity that a good lead acid deep cycle does

    # my experience with them was when they die they are dead. You really don't get any indication they are pulling down like a normal battery. They work fine until the instant they are discharged if this makes sense.

I've used AGM batteries for years. Had 'em in my truck for over 5 years with no problem. Same with my car. Use 'em in my boat with same result. I've recently added an inboard charging system to my boat and it seems to work better than when I was just using the Wal-Mart charger I've had for years. That might be because I just keep it plugged in and don't think about it anymore. Haven't cleaned a corrosion problem since I changed to using them. I use mostly Optima AGM's but have had good luck with Dura-Cell from Sam's too. In all I own 6 of 'em and not a single one has failed me since I started using them more than 5 years back.

No I don't work for them.

The man asked if anybody had any experience using Gel type batteries in their boat. I was the only respondent that provided any useful, informed information.

    Opinion is cheap.

I have a set of 3. Size 27's. In my experience they don't pull as good as the exides I replaced. I will go back to regular next time. Probably sooner than I planned. This is an opinion of mine.
