    Default Fishing New Lakes

I am from north Mississippi and fished Enid and Sardis growing up. I Know quite a few people in that area and so it not as had to find where the fish are biting the best. I have moved down to Indianola and have been trying to fish some of the smaller Oxbows around here with out much luck. I guess short of asking people where to go, which I have done. I am not sure as to where to start when I get to a new lake I have never fished before. Any tips would be greatly appreciated as to where to go in this area and what to look for when I get there. Thank you for the responses in advance, I love this site and feel confident I would not have caught the few fish I have with out all the great information I read here.

I like to pull cranks or long line new water, watching the graph and marking things and where I catch fish and then go back to those spots and slo troll if I want too. I find summer time to be a great time to fish new water.

That is great info rees! Also most of the time any kind of drainage or creeks running into lakes will have the "Most" fertile water. Which means food for planktons, food for shad, food for crappie and bass. May not always hold all the fish but is a great place to start.

I call it fishing the ledges LowePro, find the ledges find the fish a lot of the time, may very well be fish on the flats but the ledges seem to always hold some fish some where. Funny at Enid that they will be on one bank or the other of the main channel, sometimes on the bank or just on the ledges but seems they arent on both sides of the ledge. I zig zag back and forth across em until I figure out a pattern if there is one, sometimes its just no rhyme or reason to em.
