    Default Fishing with no boat

Good morning crappie.com from St Louis here. Over the years family has always made the annual guy trip down to Sardis to fish. Over the years that has broken down and not much of a tradition anymore. My wife absolutely loves to fish and has never been down there so her and I are going to come down for a weekend, unfortunately I don't have a boat I've always been on families boat when we all go down, I typically fish the dam when I'm there and that looks like a heck of a walk to fish that. Any suggestions on shore fishing down there? I've caught my fair share of crappie there I enjoy catching them but would much rather spoil her and see her get into a mess of fish and have a blast. Thank you for all your help I appreciate it!

It would be worth you while to hire a guide for one day. That would give you the best chance of catching a mess.
There are several good ones on here

EXACTLY what Speck said. A guide solves all your issues. Boat, chances of catchin fish, and an enjoyable day for your bride. REMEMBER: If she has real fun, it makes it easier to get that boat you've got your eye on. Don't lie to me and tell me there isn't one in your 'back pocket'. lol

Seriously...do the guide thing. But you'd better get on it. They book up real fast....specially the good uns.

What week are you planning to come down?

I would drive on down to Grenada and fish the spillway.

I'd fish the Butla spillway now. That rascal is really gonna jump and they should be running lots of water.

There is a spot on the dam at Sardis where there was some type of patch or repair, I see alot of people fishing off of this part of the dam at certain times of the year. Its a good spot, sometimes I'll troll around it in the boat just outside of casting distance and I'll usually pick up at least one or two good fish.

I rescheduled my weekend down so we could do some fishing with the pops when he comes down to. Gunna come down 4/9 and stay 4 days, pops will be down for that weekend we will jump on his boat for a few and fish. Hit the spillway and spend some time on the boat should be a good time. I saw that the length limit now is 11" last time I was there I think I remember it being 12.

04/09 should be a good time to be down at Sardis. We fished the lower lake and spillway during our fall break. We didn't catch any crappie.

That is a dam anchor. Suppose to reduce the wave action on the main dam. We've trolled around it, anchored off from it and used minnows under a float, did pretty good.
