Jig Enamel

I have been looking for some bigger jigs/hooks, and I found these at walmart yesterday. They are the 3/0 hooks I wanted but they are unpainted. I know some of y'all doing your own bait-making, so maybe you can help.



What kind of enamel do you use? Do you spray or dip a base color? I am guessing that you paint eyes and any additional colors, but that is just a guess. Any helpers out there?

Try powder coat. Use a heat gun from Harbor freight, just hole the hook, rotate back and forth a few times, swish, and its done.

I'm a fan of Powder coat and if you want an addictive hobby its a lot of fun and a great way to keep active on these miserable cold nights. Having said that, if you want to try, Sally Hansens Hard as nails nail polish comes in a myriad of colors and works very well on jig heads. However, by the time to buy a handful of colors you woud be better off with a Harbor Freight heat gun and an assortment of powder. Powders can be mixed to form new colors or even other desirable colors.

Ebay is a great source of jig heads as are a couple of our members. ie BoBo, Fishhunter775, Crazy Angler to name a few. Good luck

Finger nail polish will hold up pretty good. A coat of white then 1 or 2 coats of the color you want can be different than 2 or 3 coats of just the color.

Vinyl paint will hold up better. The coats can vary the same as nail polish. Sportsman's Warehouse and BPS sells it.

Some people are using the spray primer and paint in one. Coat their bullets, let dry then into the oven at 275/300 for 30 minutes to bake the finish.

Sally Hanson's "Hard as nails" works great and available at almost any department store

powder paint .heat ,dip in powder. bake in oven for a durable coat.
