Hello I am from Fl and work for the Department of Justice Federal Bureau Of Prison. I am moving to Yazoo City Federal Prison in a couple of months. Was wondering about any lakes that are close by, I fish a lot in Florida and really want to continue when I get there. I was looking up some lake and seen Washington, Grenade, Sardis but I think that they are all pretty far away.
Any information would help please

Also Ross Barnett is about 45 min south which is also a great crappie lake !!! Plus grenade , Sardis and Enid is probably about 2 hours !!!

Wolf lake is basically a narrow, winding, dead river run. It used to be pretty fair fishing but has went down dramatically since the big MS River flood. It will take time but I am sure it will rebound. Ross Barnett is a tremendous fishery, with lots of shallow water areas similar to Florida. It also has lots of pressure and joy riders. Washington is great early spring and fall, Chotard depends on the MS River levels, but I like it mid-winter. Grenada is a world class fishery that holds Giants, but can also be a Dead Sea if the conditions are not right.

Wolf Lake off to the west on 149, used to be my favorite place, but the flood has set it back. Bee, some 10 miles north on 49E also used to be a great place, give it a try. A little further up the road and off to the west is Little Eagle, great place too. Further north to Tchula is Horseshoe. Many slabs there, just hard to put in at times.
Thanks for the information guys I kinda hate leaving Fl but sometimes you have to up root. What color is the water down there. Is it stained, muddy, clear

all three depending on which lake you decide to fish. Most of the lakes mentioned in this thread dont get real muddy, muddy enuff but not as bad as the COE lakes in north MS, you can almost walk on grenada rite now its so muddy.

Barnett is probably the clearest unless the Pearl River gets it all jacked up.

Bee and horseshoe used to be two of my favrite spring lakes, while horseshoe used to be excellent summer fishing also. Both are down from years past. Both tend to be the color of coffee with heavy cream, lol. Extra muddy. But they used to be great. When I was a kid, we used to fish Dump Lake...very close to Yazoo City in Satartia. May want to check that out also.
