Snagging

Don't have to snag um in the spillway. I've Caught a ton of um in the past with two 1/16th oz jigs under a 3/4-1" pear shaped float with the line attached to the bottom hook on the float. Jig the float and watch for it to either go down or lay over when they take the weight of the jigs off the float.

I may have to give this a whirl. My snagging has improved, but I'm far from good at it. This sounds like something I can try. How deep is this rig you are talking about?

I used a 7' to 11' rod or pole and set the depth around 2-9' deep. Just depended on the fish. Cast out in the eddies (where the foam or trash stays in the same spot), and jig the float back. I've caught them in the lower lake and hip hollow (the marina now) in 2' of water in Feb. doing the same thing. Works anywhere you can cast to shallow water during the spawn also.

BRM, is this something you'd suggest trying cold nights like snagging, or is this a daytime thing? We don't have any more cold nights forecast until about the middle of next week, so I was thinking of trying it on a not so cold night (to avoid day fishermen) unless it needs cold to boost its chances of success.

I've always done it in the daylight, but I've never snagged at night either.

They are catching some pigs snagging at Butla right now tho. These were all supposedly over 3.

Very nice. Makes me want to head north to fish!

I am gonna say this about jigs verses snagging; have seen em in there so thick you couldnt help but snag them fishing legal with 2 jigs tied on, none caught in the mouth period. When they are biting the jigs work under a cork and can work well but when they sull up in a eddy up against then rocks a snagging hook will out catch a jig 10000 to 1 time and time again. If they aint there, neither one works well.

I've Caught a cooler full casting jigs on many a day. Had days I didn't get a bite also.
