Spring Crappie below Barnett Spillway

When I was a kid several of my chums and I would fish below the spillway on Ross Barnett in the Spring when the water was high and backed up. The place would be pretty crowded but the catching was usually pretty good and we had a great time being there. I've lived out of State for several years but I'm getting a new aluminum boat in a few weeks and I'd like to fish there again this year. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me when that activity should start.

Check the gauges. If you see the river below the dam get in the upper 20's then slowly falling, Hit it at about 22-25. They'll be pulling back out of the trees and on the first drops then. Gonna hit it myself in the new johnboat when it's time
