Did I spook 'em?

Yesterday I went out on Pickwick.After a short search I found what I thoughtwas a school of crappie on my sonar.Itossed a jig to see if I was right.Icaught a crappie on my first cast.Overthe next 5 minutes I pulled 5 more crappie out.
At that point I thought I might be able to end this tripquickly by deploying the spider rig.Igot 6 poles in the water and trolled back and forth over this spot.It was basically two dead trees about 25yards apart.
I caught nothing on the spider rig over the next 15minutes.Then I tossed a jig right upagainst that structure again and bam…caught another one.I caught a few more single-poling and then itall shut off.I caught no more crappie.
I couldn’t figure out why they quit biting.Is it possible to spook a school offish by pulling a few out of it?Should I have backed off and checkedon them again later?

same thing happened to me sat. and im in south ms. caught 28 on one spot and at 1030 it was like a light switch. did not get another bite. they were there i could see em on the graph but they would not eat.

Sounds like they were holding tight on wood but what you are describing is not uncommon. You might have left them alone for an hour or so and they might have been right where you left them. On the other hand you might not have caught another one there for a week. Black crappie, especially, will do that.

That's pickwick for you. Fish up there turn on and off at the drop of a hat. Fished up there last Thursday and they were holding tight to cover. Only a few aggressive fish at any given spot. They did not want to chase a bait at all.
