Default Minn Kota Terrova verse Motor Guide

I have some quesions about the difference between the 2. Is the sonar and pinpoint gps on the xi5 the same as the ipilot link for the minn kota? Will the xi5 link to my humminbird 859 on bow and 899 at console, like ipilot link would? Does the xi5 have the follow the contour mode like ipilot link? Motor Guide is quite a bit cheaper and im trying to figure out the difference between the 2 and find out why one is cheaper than the other.

No, it will not link to your birds. It is soon to have the capability to link with Lowrance units. Haven't read much on that as far as it's ability to follow contour on their charts. Even on your minkota with I link you have to have a Lakemaster card and your lake has to be on it. They do have a deal where you can build your own chart for a certain lake if it's not already charted.

The Xi5 has no display window on the remote for speed or any settings. I'll link my Lowrance units to one as soon as the remote has the visual info.

When I traded boats a couple of months ago I did a lot of research (even called BRM in West Memphis) on trolling motors. I did not like minn kotas, because we don't use the remote feature. The wireless TM's are much less responsive when fishing visible cover. In addition, the ck's power button on the foot control is much less user friendly than motor guides. According to all the research the motor guide shaft was easier to bend than the MK's. Having said all of that, I bought a 70 lb. digital motor guide and really like it so far.

The MG remote doesn't give you the speed, etc. It doesn't have an info screen on it.

that's a huge deal breaker, heck the Link remote even had the depth, temp, time and all the stuff the Ipilot remote has on it. To me the Link is worth the upgrade if you are buying new just for the remote.

Yeah, the info screen on the MK remote is like an added GPS in your boat.
