I'm with mrdux on removing the baits from the lines when trying to untangle. The hooks just don't want to cooperate. I use 20/6 hi-vis yellow braid when pulling cranks. I get some of my cranks back when I get hung and with the no stretch properties of braid, I can tell by the vibration of my rod tips if something is wrong with my bait.
I'm starting out with the mr crappie 10 lb. I may change that later after I get some experience and a few more lessons.
I look at my rod tips with the braid also. If it ain't shaking, something is wrong.Quote:

I guide on Greers Ferry in North Central Arkansas. The lake is a clear water lake that was flooded with all the timber uncut so getting hung up is always happening. I use power pro braid hi vis which allows me to get some of my cranks back when hung. The fish are not line shy at all because cranking is a reaction strike.
