Little Help- JP Coleman/ Indian Creek

I'm spending the week at JP coleman with my Dad. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to fish around the park area. We haven't had much luck so far, I'm hoping for some warmer weather, thanks in advance!

How far do you want to roam? JP Coleman sits right in the middle of three big creeks…Yellow Creek is about 4 miles to the north, Bear creek is about 4 miles to the south (with the Mill Creek section more like 9 miles) and the park sits right on Indian Creek. All three have crappie…just depends on how much traveling you want to do.

Do you have a graph? Charts of the area? Are you in a boat that can comfortably run 10 miles either direction?

I've only fished Indian Creek a few times but i had luck trolling past the mouths of the coves on the park side and then further back on the south side just fishing along the bank…it drops off pretty quick.

Give us some more info on how mobile you are.

Have Fished Bear before. I have depth finder and some maps of pickwick. I would be interested in any info about yellow creek and indian creek. We went in indian today and caught a few on those coves, thinking about putting in at the mill creek boat ramp tomorrow and fishing bear. Any other info about indian or yellow creek would be great, thanks for the comments! (I am comfortable running 4 or 5 miles if the water on the river isn't too rough)

You can run up the river to Yellow Creek or you can use one of two boat ramps right next to Goat Island. If you take the boat just hang a left out of JP coleman (north) and motor up river about 3.5 miles to the mouth of Yellow Creek. Go straight down Yellow Creek until you see the "cut through" that I've pointed out on the map. Shoot through the cut and hang a left (south). Now you can motor straight down stream a few miles to Goat Island. Start fishing the flat on the north side of the island (this is the side you'll be coming from).

Alternately you can just use one of the ramps right across from goat island and motor about 200 yards across to get to the spot. Another option is the use the Scruggs Bridge ramp. It's not far from JP Coleman and sits at the base of the bridge where the Tom Bigbee and Yellow Creek meet. If you put in at Scruggs just head north (away from the TomBigbee) and you'll get to goat island in no time. Lots of options if the water's too rough on the main river…which it can be…frequently.

The first map shows the mouth of Yellow Creek. Arrows point the way to the cut through.



When you pop out of the cut, head south to the spot marked. I have a typo on the map…it should read "fishing"…not "fishig"…but it was too much work to go back and fix it.

North end of Goat Island has been good to me in the past. The campground wants $5 for launch the last I was there.

heard of 51 coming out of Indian Creek a couple of weeks ago, since you are right there, I would just go up in to Indian Creek, can be a hot area early, lot of the local guides fish there early. I would give it a try before I went to moving around

Just wanted to thank all of you for the help! Hasn't exactly been the greatest week of fishing, but we've had a god time and Dad did manage to snag this 16 inch slab.
