you either need full replacement or shop every year . The initial amount insured will revert to actual book value after one yr . I called my company and asked what amount would I get if boat / atv was stolen ? never got an answer . they will say that claims dept . will contact you . Eventually you will be told that an amount is to be pro rated and is a moving target . you are the target !

How does the full replacement insurance work on older boats ? is your boat then pro rated or do they figure what the actual cost of same year boat replacement might cost?

Need to check your your agent. Make them explain how their coverage would work.

What about liability? I worry about an accident with a non-family member

It most likely will be insurance that is tied to your homeowners policy in a lot of cases. It will cover your boat at its value, will have liability coverage for whatever amout your select and your agent will help you with that. Now a couple of things, your tackle , trolling motor, electronics will only be covered to a certin level and you will have to give values, serial numbers, and up the coverage on them on a seperate rider. And be sure to check that your motor isnt over the coast guard rating for the boat or most companines wont cover it. Mine is rated for a 60 and I have a 70 on it, but my insurance company said that the newest version of the boat is rated for a 70 and the fact I am only 10 hp over they will cover it, That is all in writing my agent made sure of that.
