Thanks, it's not that I haven't handled catish since I was a young boy. It is worse than that, I just didn't use good sense by trying to take the hooks out with my fingers no matter how light he was hooked.

This was total 100% me not paying respect to the situation. Won't happen again.

Go to YouTube and see if you can find a video on using fishing line to remove hooks or google it. Best method ever for removing buried fish hooks. Get you a peice of small dowell rod and about 2 ft of Braided line. Tie one end to center and a loop knot in other end. Put that in your first aid kit. Let wife watch it also. Everyone needs to know how to do this. Under right circumstances you sometimes can do it on yourself. Go to grizzly jig and get a pair of those yellow plastic catfish grippers.

Always heard that a dab of the slime on the belly will stop the pain from being spined.

Some OLD CHARTER 10 YEAR OLD over ice would have help yhe pain and maybe my pride. It wasn't part of the script that day but I got over it. It was just too good of a fubar not to share with a bunch of guys who could picture just how it went down. The wife also slapped me in the head yarding a crappie in the boat about an hour later. I knew it was a keeper by the impact. Never saw it coming, was probably looking at the extra knee on my leg. Thankfully no infection in the flesh but the bone is still sore to the touch.

Poor choices can make for good stories later.

Ouch! That sounds awful. I got jabbed right in the palm last week by a crappie fin and I bled like a stuck pig. Two years ago I managed to get a Bandit hook buried in my middle finger of my right hand, right at the time my $110 St. Croix rod went overboard. WORST day of fishing in my entire life.

No, just left it swollen, bloody, and slimmy. Bone is still sore.
