Heck Gomer did you know that everybody on C.C has a wildlife management degree but we all decided to go into another line of work
I agree with what you are saying about the size of butla crappie. They have bass backs and linebacker shoulders, I call them knife dullers! Besides what you are saying about the shad size(I have no idea how big shad get) the rich soil around arkabutla has a lot to do with it. Another factor is the cover in the lake. This is key for grenada because those fish have stump fields for days to hide and ambush bait. Enid does not have any cover so they are confined to certain lake structures. Lastly, fishing pressure and the age class of fish are important.
I will say that during high water i have always done good except for this year, But i know what the problem is and it aint high water or the grass
Bird,
I just noticed your scale is saying that 13.5" Sardis crappie is 2.5 lbs, might want to get the tape or the scale checked :)
"Butla is just tough to fish during high water."
Im not disputing anything you are saying, I just want to point out that year before last when the water was high the crank pullers had a field day on Butla. From what little I know, pulling cranks is usually not that productive on Butla.
