I'm new to crappie fishing and with crank baits too. I fished a couple of weekends ago and just casted out as far as I could and just let out what I felt was enough. I had my 15 in a couple hours. White worked for me.
The depth that your baits will run also can be effected by the size line you are using too. The depth charts are set up using 10# line.
I have been to Enid 3 times in the past week and its a different color that did best each time. Mistake, and Red Fire Tiger yesterday and 2 days before that it was Awesome Pink and Pink Sparkle. I run braid and have caught from 75ft of line to 120ft. in 20 to 28 feet of water. I am new too but you are in the right spot to learn.
None of it matters. Using 6lb to 15lb. 300 series or 200 series. 150' out to 50' out. Bnm poles or Walmart specials. Black to white or pink to green in color. You drag that bait in front of a hunger fish he will bite it. Very easy with cranks that's why everyone does it now same with spider rigging. Put it in front of the right fish and your hooked up!!! When it's windy and you want to go fishing put in the river plenty of fish in there to catch. No wind either. Totally different lake. That's what I like about Sardis you have so many places to fish each one looks different.
The depth chart works with the line measured from where it enters the water. If the pole is high, the line will hit the water as much as 30ft. back. If one guys tips are close to water at 60ft, it would be about the same depth as one with 90ft. out with a pole 3ft. off the water.
Good info there on line entering water.
