If you are gonna fish flats and raely get hung up then mono all the way, if you are gonna be fishing stumps and rocks and stuff then braid so you can staighten the hooks on the bait and get it back when it hangs. I dont loose enuff baits to fool with braid, hi vis 10 pound mono just dont get any of that Mr Crappie crap!!!:banghead I have had real good luck with this, get it in the saltwater section at Bass Pro.

I use mono, but if you are going to use braid I will +1 on the Palomar Knot.

If you're going to use braid :
Get a pair of Child's Size Fiskar Scissors ... it will cut the braid clean & blunt. You can usually find them in the school supplies or crafts section of your local "Xmarts"
Get a "lure knocker" ... you "might" recover some of those cranks with it.
Get a section of wood dowel ... use it to wrap the braid around when you're trying to pull a bait free from a snag. Use your hands or rod handle (cork or foam) to wrap the braid around and you'll suffer some mean cuts on them !!! And especially if you're going to be using 30# test braid. The breakage strength to line diameter & the no stretch properties of braid will make it a whole lot like very limp "wire" ... and you know what'll happen if you wrap wire around your hand & try and break it :Doh: nonono

I use 15/4 braid for everything. I use a improved clinch knot for tying on rig's. Leave about 1/4 in tag when knot is tied. Have never had it slip. Pali AR is good knot if you can tie it but had a lot of break offs when bass fishing right at the knot. Probably my knot tying more than anything. Like Sat said, lots of story's about braid that ain't true. It will knot on you at times but it is worth it to me.
15lb Ande Mono Envy Green. Haven't lost one crank since I spooled them last year. I also single pole jigged with this line this year for the first time line broke once due to nicking it on stake beds pulling them out of there. Best line I've EVER used and always will. For Sardis anyway.
I like the braid strength but it seem like i get more strikes on the mono!

10/3 Tuff Line braid. I use both a palomar, and the uni knot. Read an article in a green carp magazine about the uni, and it did good when I tried it tying fast snaps on my C and C rigging rigs. The eye on the fast snap is to small for a palomar. The Uni is the knot that I usually use to join my braid with a mono leader when walleye fishin.
Another thing I will add to the discussion .... is that, yes, even braid will twist on you !! And when it does, it's not always quite as noticeable as when mono twists up. Even so .... it's probably a good idea to go through one or the other of the "untwisting" maneuvers :
drag a long stretch of empty line behind the boat, at idle speed, for a few minutes
OR
drag a long stretch of empty line through the grass, in your yard, a few times around the yard
And, in either case ... use your index finger & thumb to put tension on the line, as you reel the line back on (through the water or the grass).
A lot of people think it's the reel that's causing the twisted line ... when, in fact, 99% of the time it's the fault of the bait or casting method (or combination of the two). Jigs (& cranks) can & will spin when casting (esp when using a wrist snap overhead cast) and crankbaits will roll (when trolled too fast, or when they pick up debris) ... and a lot of the time you won't even notice or think about it until the line starts twisting into loops/knots when it's slack.

Best knot I've found for braid is a double palomar.When you tie a palomar just make an exta pass tru the loop.
