Dealing with wind

How do you deal with wind that overpowers your drift sock and/or trolling motor?

If i want to troll at 0.4 mph but i cant get any slower than 1 mph what do i do? Just troll that fast and hope for the best?

The wind last saturday really frustrated me. Ive got a great trolling motor but when the wind shifts constantly from 10 to 25 mph i cant maintain any type of consistent speed...and sometimes it simply blows me backward.

Do you keep fishing with less speed comtrol or do you quit fishimg?

Have a glass 19.5 boat and two 60" socks do fine for me. Wind past 25-30 look for sheltered bank to help block off some of the wind

Use 3 ounce weights. But the best choice is put waders on and jig. Less nerve wracking and cheaper than buying a glass boat.

I have used 4 drift socks, 2-65" and 2-56", AND a pair of chains at the same time. Does good up to 40mph gusts like we had at the Sardis FJ.

I like the chains personally, less snags on brush than the sock, without the TM on on windy days, I can keep from .1-.4

How long of a chain do you use?

5 foot sections of chain, tied to 25 ft of rope, that I clip on the transom of my boat. I clip one on each tiedown point on the back of the boat when its really windy.

And I'll state the obvious....the longer the rope the slower you will go with chains or sox. I use two ropes..25 feet with 5-6 feet of 1/2 inch log chains and another (3rd) in the boat, just incase.

For a minumal fee I've use WB out the back of the boat with a 20 foot rope and he digs his heels in. Wears out after an hour or so, but by then we usually have a limit. lol
