x2 on the longer rope. when I'm in 10 FOW and don't have much wind, i usually pull in about 10 ft of rope, leaving 15 foot of rope out and 5 ft of chain at the end. The more verticle the rope, the easier it is for the boat to move

So the chain doesnt stir up the bottom and spook fish?
The chain is below and behind your fishing area. Won't spook fish any more than 2 60" drift socks floating past them
If you rent WB, it takes the fish a little longer to bit cuase they see him scootin along behind the boat it take em a few minutes to quit laughin, so go plenty sloooooow.
You might want to try putting that rope around his waist instead of his neck next time. He's not as quick witted as he once was. The lack of o2 is beginning to affect his brain.
Yes the chain does stir up the bottom. Contrary to spooking fish, the stirred up silt actually attracts bait fish which in turn attracts........ You guessed it.Quote:

Yep, chains for me, could have used a 30 pounder anchor this afternoon. Needed to stay in one spot and the chains kept letting go, bet I will have it fixxed by morning tho.:biggrin

I use a 6 foot length of 3/8's chain on a 50 foot rope. The more rope you let out, the slower you go.
