    Default Slushy Lakes

The lakes in the area still have at the least 18 inches of snow cover and 4 inches of slush.
I have a couple of friends reported auguring a hole only to have water gushing up and flooding the area.
Hopefully soon the snow will settle enough to permit truck traffic.

It's almost April....you'd still drive out onto ice this late?

    (novice newbie, not sarcasm).

I drove by Medicine lake and see that everyone's off of it now, even foot traffic.

Everyone is off of Medicine lake because its Medicine lake. Up in northern mn there is plenty of ice for vehicles for awhile, just need the melt to begin for the bite and travel to improve and kick into high gear, And it is as I type these words.

We have been getting temps in the high thirty's and melting snow. This has been causing sink holes in the ice. What is alarming is the holes are bridged over with snow. Several people have reported holes as large as three feet in diameter.
It is advised to go with another person and carry ice picks and a rope when scouting for fish.
