Once again vbottom and spartannation went on a crappie seeking adventure. This trip was down to Calhoun County to try some fall long line trolling on "No Luck" Duck Lake. We were on the water at the crack of dawn with the air temp in the high 30's/low 40's. Water temp was 60*. We started on a stretch of shoreline we haven't fished much hoping to stumble on one of the walleye stocked in the lake. It didn't pay off other than a few small bass and a small crappie.
It took a while to figure out what type of structure the fish were relating to (weed points extending out to the drop off in 12 fow) but once we did we were able to put 7 nice crappie in the live well, all coming from an area maybe 20' long and the width of the boat. We took that info and went searching for other areas that were similar. when everything lined up perfectly the action could be hot and heavy, bordering on insanely hectic. having fish on 4 rods at a time while trying to control the boat and battling a cross wind can get that way.
At 4:00 we decided to call it a day with our take for the day 23 crappie 10"-12", 4 bluegills 8 1/2-9 7/8, one big rock bass and a 22" walleye as well as a bunch of small crappie, bass and pike that were returned to the water. It was a very pretty fall day with no boat traffic and we even got to watch a deer swim across the lake. Enjoy the pictures.![]()
