That is what the kids these day refer to as “Click Bait”! Sorry guys, as much as I would love to show you a brand new high speed low drag boat, this will have to do for the time being. Of course, it isn’t even my boat!

My barn has a history of collecting stuff. Unfortunately, not all of it is mine. I’ve now come to the conclusion that the storage fee for putting things in my barn is my ability to utilize it whenever I want! This kayak is actually my sisters. I moved it when I helped her move out of her place in Cadillac. At the present time, she has zero room for it at her new place.

I was laying on the couch yesterday feeling like the whole weekend was a total bust. I had not accomplished anything. I kind of felt like a slug. At 6:30 pm I looked at the weather gauge. The temperature had dropped to a nice cool 89 degrees. I want to do something. It is much too late to hook up the boat. Wait, I have that kayak in the barn. I could be on a local 15 acre pond in less than 30 minutes. I loaded up all the necessary gear, a drink cooler, my Barbie tackle box with soft plastics, some jigs, and some slab sauce (yes, I said Barbie tackle box). When I arrived, I was surprised to see that I had the lake all to myself.

After reacquainting myself with the inner workings of what can only be described as a coffin, I paddled across the pads to a deep section of the pond. As I rigged up a 1/16th oz jig, I took notice of just how quiet it was. No sounds of boats, no trolling motor, no people talking, nothing. Because this pond is more than 2 miles down a gravel road, there was not even the sound of a passing car. The pond was dead still.

I made several casts with a trusty bait that I have previously caught the majority of fish on. I just couldn’t get anything to bite. As I was paddling from one place to another, I had a bite. I guess I can troll with anything!

After some more casting, and nothing to show for it, I paddled again and again pulled another fish.

Then, it dawned on me. I was fishing close to the water (not out of a normal boat). My bait was sinking way too much and I was fishing under the fish. I downsized my offering to a 1/32oz jig and also switched baits from a paddle tail minnow to a curly tail minnow. And the game was on.

I was on the water a little less than two hours. Although I had intentions to keep fish, the water was much too warm and I just didn’t feel like cleaning fish. I didn’t catch any monsters as this body of water isn’t known for that. What I did do was cure my itch to go fishing and extinguish the boredom that had set in after a long weekend of doing nothing. It isn’t something I would look to do every day, but it was fun to pass the time.
