No, it can be used for both. I like it because it is thinner, much easier to cut, and doesn't require tape and joint compound. I did the entire kitchen, dinning, and bath at my old house/rental, as well as all future tile work.
You probably have one but, if not, I have a commercial wet saw you can use. I also have somewhere around 5280 backer board screws you can have!
