One thing I havent done but it sounds like a good idea, is to carry a extra hub with bearings along. When I had my hubs off I wrote the casting numbers down......but I should have written down the bearing numbers as well for proper fit. Next spring I guess I'll be more dilligent.

Steve, it is a good idea to change it every year. I do mine in the fall just to be sure there isn't any water in the lower unit. I don't store mine in a heated space so I have a concern about freezing.
One of the biggest reasons to change the lower unit oil is in case there's water in it. If you have water it could freeze and do a lot of damage. It's best to change the lower unit oil before you put the boat away for the winter.
I change mine in the spring for a couple of reasons.
1: when was the last time we had a winter?
2: I'm still using my boat in December (many years January and February)
If you have crush washers (or O rings) make sure to change those out when you change your lower unit oil. Those are the number one culprits to allowing water to gain access to the lower unit!!! Usually one on the upper bolt and one on the lower bolt.

I always like the color of your boat Gary. Tons of blue, black, and gray, but that one is different.
New prop finally came in and went on. Got the fluids and prop changed in dads boat too.
One thing to note for people. If you ever change from an aluminum prop to stainless steel, it is a good idea to decrease the pitch. Stainless adds weight which decreases RPM. The range you want is 5800 to 6200 at full throttle.
I switched his from a 19p to a 17p.

Im running a 4 blade Alum. prop, last year I went from a 19 to 17 just to get my rpms up to 5800, Im buying my Stainless online and i have up to 2 weeks to return it if i dont like it
Received a hot bite tip yesterday so i changed my plans and went out of Grand Haven to fish the skinny waters for some Browns and kings, quess I was a day late. lol

I tried Holland for browns yesterday and lake macatawa for crappie .........nada
nice day on the big lake though.
I have yet to find crappie in Macatawa. Some guy once told me he knew of an old fisherman years ago that placed structures along an area down in the east end, but I've never found them. I haven't heard many stories about crappie out of Mac but I believe their in rhere.Quote:
