    Default Sunshine, shortpants and crappie

Well guys , we made it down to Louisiana. We left Friday evening about 7 and made it just into Illinois when we lost our trailer lights. A short stop and a new fuse and we were back on the road, for about 10 miles and out they went again. Another stop, another fuse and lots of looking for the cause , as well as a red LED head lamp zip tied to the boat motor and on the road again. This time we made it until I mentioned to Jeff that we had fixed the problem, maybe 40 miles, and, as they say, boom, boom, out go the lights. A 2am stop in Salem, Il. at a 24 hour Walmart for more fuses and some serious trouble shooting solved the problem. We had a wire that had wore through that was grounding out on the trailer frame. We arrived in Calhoun, La. just shy of noon, ate lunch, took a nap and headed to Ruston to buy a license. Sunday morning we launched about 9am at Hwy 2 on Lake Darbonne. The weather is unseasonably warm so I chose shorts. I figure if I can go shirtless in 35 degree weather, I can go bare legged in 75 degree. We tied off to a channel marker pole and fished shiner minnows under slip bobbers and started catching a few fish. We marked LOTS of fish on the channel edges but they were reluctant to bite. We hopped around a bit and were able to catch a few at every stop. At 4 a front came through and blew us off the water. Our catch for day 1 was 14 crappie and 3 channel cats. Big fish was 1 lb 1 oz with most being around 3/4 pound. About 50/50 blacks and whites. Sure beats ice, snow and mud. Water temp here was 60 degrees.

Sorry to hear about your trailer problems, first place I would have checked would have been a loose nut behind the steering wheel. Then I'd check for a short in the drivers seat.

Glad you made it down there safely. Keep us updated on how you guys are doing down there.
