Headed to Middle Lake today intent on longlining for crappie. Marked lots of fish suspended just off the drop about 10' down but had no takers. Also tried pulling cranks along the drop with only one bass taken. Switched to plan B before it got too hot, slip bobbers and red worms, and started catching fish. For every 20 dinks we would get a decent gill or sunnie. These were caught on the drop 7-10 feet down. About 1pm we had enough heat and decided to call it a day. We ended with 15 decent fish. Water temp was 82 in the morning and 85 when we left. Some of the females still had their eggs
I would love to get a department of fisheries biologist take on these fish that still have eggs. Specifically, are they going to spawn? If not, what happens to the eggs? Will they spawn later? We all have seen this at some point this year and all have speculations. Would love to get a professional opinion on it.
