Default Time to hit the spring hotspopts

Picked up a dozen goldens and half dozen suckers today with plans of hitting a couple spring pike spots before the season closes. When the weather and water conditions cooperate it can be incredible fishing. This appears to be one of those years. Also have a canal that opens early and fills up with crappie right after ice out. Reports say the Detroit is still a little cold and the Saginaw is running high and dirty so pike and crappie it is. What a state we live in, no lack of things to chase.

Detroit is running about 34 right now... as for Saginaw, If I wasn't busy filling orders, that is where I would be. Tons of fish in the river right now. 5/8oz minimum on weight needed. That fishery (on the river) closes in six days.

Three pike yesterday in a couple of hours, one keeper, trying again in the morning for a bit. My crappie spot should be open by this weekend so it's game on!

Out on big lake this am with old friend (and old boss). Slow catching. Lost one nice steelies at boat off Port Sheldon, but boated another in the channel coming in. 24 in. No weight as scale was wiggling out, but guessing in the 3-4 # range. Water was 35-36 deg and 12-14 FOW. They were liking orange apparently after talking to guy at launch that had 2 browns and 2 steelhead all caught on same color.Name: uploadfromtaptalk1457630295889.jpg

Nice fish! Got to love this time of year. I got out this morning and landed one 17" smallie and a 22" northern. Had another 6-8 hits but couldn't land them. Used my last 9 minnows and I'm not sure I can get more. Might have to concentrate on the crappie.

Try Verns bait shop in Woodbury, I was just there today and I saw they had minnows for sale on their board.
