Default Lac La Belle in the UP

Going up to do some skiing this winter and was wondering if anyone ever ice fished Lac La Belle?

My wifes dads side of the family is from UP there, they worked in the copper mines. Although Ive never fished it, Ive heard her family say it is (was) a great lake and it's a beautiful one too.
Sorry I'm not able to give more info than that.

First time I ever heard of it. Almost sounded like a Wisconsin Lake. Good Luck

I looked it up and it looks like a good place to chase fish and leave your skies home

After all shouldn't you be out in that river boat chasing steelies, been doing any good ?

I am not setting any records and haven't caught a ton but I have put a few fish in the boat. Its all expense paid ski trip but the hill closes at 430 so I am going to try to get some eyes in the evening if possible. Will probably just use a jigging rapala for a few hours and see if I can pull anything up. Maybe a tip up or 2.

Larry - There is also a Lac La Belle in Wisconsin that really makes my searching for information difficult!

Lac La Belle, up in the Keweenaw... a little north east of Calumet. About 30 or so feet deep, nice channel that goes out into Lake Superior..... Nope, your right, never fished it

I worked with a guy from Calumet. I heard him talk about it a time or two but he was more of a brook trout fisherman.

Interesting side note: At one point in time, Calumet was actually going to be our State Capital. During the copper boom, it actually had more people than about any other city in Michigan.

A few yoopers have replied to my thread on iceshanty and said that not many people ice fish this lake. They say you can catch any fish that swims in Lake Superior in there. Should be a fun way to pass the time in the evening if nothing else.
