Daddy Day Care

We got word last weekend that a family member on my wife’s side had passed away. My wife was planning on attending the services in the Upper Peninsula along with my father in law and she would be leaving on Thursday. The wheels turned in my head. That is a quick and easy way to get out of work on Friday as I have to take care of the little one!! It almost didn’t happen as she had her heart set on going. It took some arm twisting but having fun with daddy seemed much more enjoyable than sitting in a car for 14 hours during the span of 4 days.

We got up Friday morning and heading over to Sterling State Park in Monroe. Like me, Brian also played hooky on this trip. We stopped at Jeff’s bait shop just outside the entrance and purchased two heaping scoops of minnows. The boat was launched by 7am.

I set down about 5 miles east of the harbor and marked quite a few fish. We couldn’t get them to bite so I moved another mile out (1/2 mile short of where I finished the week before). We were on the fish in short order.
Abby had fun fishing by herself from the back of the boat. The gulls would sit out back and wait for dead fish, minnows, and anything else you would throw. By the end of the day she had all of them named!


We ended up keeping 63 perch. We had 4 fish over 12 inches, some really decent ones, and a few that inhaled the hook and I didn’t want to feed the birds with. It was a great day on the water!
