    Default 4/17 Fishing Report

In the Fishing Trip Bucket List Thread (Found Here), I listed Detroit River Walleye #2 on my list.
On Friday, I had the honor of joining Rich and his Dad, on his boat for a day on the river.

I think he just wanted some pointers on how to catch em...

Here's a pic of my first Detroit River walleye

Uh, Um, see whahadhappenwas... I caught Small Mouth instead. A couple of them actually. We all had a bass in the boat at one point or another.

We got in the water early, and I took pics like a tourist. Problem is we didn't take any pics of the fish.

We kept 11 walleye. Let some small ones go. Nothing super huge. Rich and his dad gave my 9 to take home, and they kept 2. Most in my cooler were 19-22" when I measured them at home.

All in in all it was a great day on the water. Good weather, good company, and good fishing.
Thanks again rich for the invite.

Today my wife, daughter, and i, invited my mom, dad, and sister over for a fish fry. It was the perfect opportunity to test out my new electric fryer. The 9 walleye fed us all and we had enough for the old man and I to have walleye for lunch tomorrow...

    Here fishy, fishy, fishy...

Was a pleasure having you with us. We had a ton of fun. My head looks like a lobster. I forgot that I had sun screen. You never think about putting it on until it was too late.

Hope you like the fryer. I have the same one and we love it. My parents just purchased the dual one.

Still havn't caught a fish on the charity rod but you gave it a good effort. Took me forever to get my first fish of the day. Some days you hold your rod the wrong way. Dad schooled both of us in the morning. I took him to the wood shed on the perch though.

Now you know 1/10th of my hot spots on the river and how to do it. I'm willing to bet your next boat will be equiped to fish it now!

Don't worry bought the jigs.... I know the guy that makes em

Looks like an awesome time .Must seem strange fishing right in front of a city. Although we fish under the interstates in several areas down here. (very noisy) Anyway, great post and pix. Thanks for clarifying the first pic. I was gonna ask which one was the walleye!!

    Funny story...
First thing out there, Rich hands me a pole, with jig head/body set up, and says "if you snag, point the rod tip at it and brake the line"
Me being an invited guest, using his stuff, didn't want to loose the hosts tackle.
I was actually a little nervous about it.

First time my line hits the water... Snagged :-(

Rich, being the light hearted guy he is, says "Don't worry about the jigs... I know the guy that makes them. He gives me a good deal"

Nothing like a good chuckle to ease the pain.

As for sunburn, I forgot my hat and my sunglasses in my truck where rich picked me up. All day on the river on a beautiful day, the day after freshly shaving my head is a bad combo. My head is horrible.

To add insult to injury.... I had an extra hat in the backpack in my truck!! Three bald guys in a boat is bad for everyone else around without sunglasses.

Losing jigs just means you have good contact with the bottom. I took a guy one time that lost so many jigs I had to respool my fishing rod on the water!
