Tim, PM stands for "private message". It's a way to converse with other members or groups of them without everybody being able to view the conversation. There is a link at the top of the forum pages labeled "private message".

After you click on "private messages" link, it will open another page. On that page you will see on the left side a menu with an inbox folder and a sent folder. You can create additional folders and name them as you like. On the right side you will see your inbox and any messages from members that have been sent to you (you have one from me). You will know that you have private messages among other things if you keep an eye on the "notifications" icon in the very upper right hand side of the forums page. It will tell you you have (1) private message right now.

You can send private messages by clicking on the "send a new message" link that is also on the right hand side of your PM page. When you click on that link, it will open another page that looks sort of like an email page with "recipient" box at the top. You start typing the members "handle" in the box, and it will show you a list of member handles that are similar to what you are typing. Pick the correct member handle and click on it to put it in the recipient box. Tab down into the text box and type your message. When finished you click on "submit message" at the very bottom of the text box to send the message.
