    Default Grayling area in June

    Hello!

I have a family thing for two weeks in June, right on the Au Sable. That appears to be heavy trout/fly fishing territory, but I am not interested in getting into that. I'd like to go for crappie, sunfish, perch, and the occasional bass. And I will have a kayak or the bank to fish from.

I will be coming up from Virginia. Do any locals there have recommendations?

    Thanks,
    Mike

It is the second half of June, at Riverview Lodge halfway between Grayling and Mio.

    Welcome Mike.
If I were you I'd try Houghton Lake which is just south of Grayling.

Hi Mike: The backwaters of the Mio Pond just above the Mio Dam is a real good fishery with a boat launch. Pike, Bass,Pan-fish etc. Good Luc

Thanks, guys. The Mio Dam Pond looks particularly encouraging, with lots of shoreline, some depth, and maybe some structure.

What are the rules in MI for use of cast nets to get minnows?

You can use a cast net in the great lakes-but not inland. If you have one of those square minnow nets to drop down for minnows, or a metal minnow trap you can use them. I got a cast net and was disapointed when I found out you couldn't use them on inland lakes.

Too bad. I will have to just buy them locally, I guess.

Frank would tell you to take your yak over to Reedsburg dam. That time of the season you might just cash in on the crappie in the stumps...it's loaded with them and perfect for a kayak. Heck he might even join you if he sees these posts.
