Default Doodler road report...chapter two...wash out

Late Thu. night as we were leaving Whiskers, the rain really started to come down. It rained all night. Fri. morning, still raining. It was obvious today was going to be a wash. Billbob and his buddy Inspector Mike were leaving Indiana around 8 am, which according to Slabs calculation, should put them here about 3 pm.

I can't recall exactly what time it was, but a truck pulled up to our site, and out came a couple gentlemen. "You must be Yankee Doodler", one of them says. "My handle is Fisherman Wannabe." He and his friend Jack were here for the shindig and staying at a local resort. We talked for a bit, and then decided to head up the road to Fast Eddies Bait, Tackle, and Restaurant. This is an establishment that Ed christened with a Crappie.com decal in the past, and had since added an eatery to the venue. Breakfast was on our minds.

We parted ways from Eddies, and Slab and I went back to Lakeside to wait out the rain. Billbob and Mike showed up right on que mid afternoon.

Things at Lakeside began to pick up as preparations were being made for the "Meet and Greet" later that night. Folks started to show up at our site, and next door at Billbobs, and pretty soon we all wound up at the pavilion, which was just a stone throw from our camp.

Whiskers showed up with Elk prepared like pulled pork. Delicious! LilCrappieMama brought a boat load of chili, and I took the phatties. There was plenty of food as usual.

Saturday we had a break in the weather for the morning and everyone got out on the water to locate the fish after all the rain. Ed and I couldn't work the docks very well with the wind direction, so we pulled out the long poles and tried spider rigging again. Ed managed to put one keeper in the box. We caught a couple smaller fish, but Ed did most of the work. Even with tips from LilCrappieMama, we just couldn't get it done.

Back at camp we got things around for the shindig and to wait for the weigh in. Wilbur and his team, yankees I might add, which Whiskers had a hard time swallowing took 1st place with 10 lbs., Grizz took 2nd place with 8.9 lbs. Other worthy mentions were Whiskers at 8.6 lbs., and Chaunc with 7 lbs.

Whiskers played the role of Master-Of-Ceremonies, and did a job that only he could do. He is one funny dude! There were so many good prizes from some great sponsors like Arky, TT Blakemore, Off Shore tackle, Southern Pro, Wally Marshall, Lakeside Campground, and so many more. Everyone went away with something.

And then there was the food...oh was there food! I'm not sure of the head count, but I'll guess it was in the neighborhood of 50 people, and nobody left hungry.
