Were you fishing with Al on Monday? Did you guys try for any eyes?
Got 12 more Gills from the same lake today. Similar sized to the last I will post a photo later but I have a story that needs to be posted first!
So I was fishing in my shanty and a couple guys came and started to fish near me, no biggie I like company so I said hello to them and went about my fishing. About 10 minutes after they set up to start fishing I hear one guy's drag ripping HARD next to my shanty. I opened the window to look out and give some words of encouragement. He got the drag under control and started pulling the "fish" in. I went back to fishing waiting for him to get it on the ice when suddenly I hear the guy scream and see him jump out of his chair and move about 5 feet away from the hole holding his rod that is now ripping drag like crazy again. Me and my buddy start asking him what happened and if he had a whale on his line. He just screams out "NO!!! It had fur on it!". His buddy comes running over and at this point I had to get out of my shanty and see what the heck is going on. His buddy starts to hand line the "fish" back to the hole, its giving a good fight, like nothing I have ever seen before. They finally get it to the hole and the guy caught a muskrat!!! He hooked it with a fly in the mouth!
Good one Hermin... I would have liked to have seen that guys face.
I've had them swim in the hole before but I've never hooked one, nor have I ever seen one hooked before. They scare you enough when they swim up or by the hole. I could only imagine the look on that guys face when he saw fur for the first time. Awesome story. Wish there was video to go along with it. I assume the muskrat was "catch and release"
Yeah, once we got it back to the hole and saw what was we cut the line. He came up and sat in the hole for a bit then took off back to where he came from.
Eric,
Your getting good at fish stories, we need some good stories like that at the lies club, lol
Did you get a note on your car this time?
Nope, It ended up being our on's wife that left the note because her husband didn't tell her what he was up to ;)
That's good , i think most people are good as long as you ask first
A few years back i had a great summer spot I would take some nice crappie off a brush pile up north and of coarse it was at the opposite end of the boat launch so i stooped and asked the home owner if i could walk across his yard so i could ice fish.
Later after walking off the ice he came out and asked how i did and i said i didn't even catch one fish. He said i wondered why you wanted to fish there no one ever fishes there :scratchhead
It was good to know that some people that live on a lake are friendly to us ice fisherman, guess all you have to do is ask
Went back to the same lake today, the fish have moved. I caught 1 big gill and a ton of tiny ones. I did have a muskrat pop up in my shanty and hang out for a little while which was interesting. Im going to start calling this place muskrat lake. I had a solid slab on that got off at the top of the hole.
