First off welcome hale! Don't know how much you like our winters, but ya gotta love MI in the summer. Mmaveal (Mike) lives over your neck o the woods, so he might be able to help out some, and Wichlundrh (Rich) knows some o those waters too. If you can travel some there's a ton of lakes northeast that hold good fish too. If you have time to join us for our events, we have several each year now. Gonna have one in May (as it stands right now) probably up north on lakes Cadillac/Mitchell. Also hold one in the fall after Labor Day but don't know where yet. We are holding our winter SlabFest up on lake Missaukee the weekend of 2/16 and sounds like we have plenty of equipment for all. Keep an eye on the MI board for details. Would love to meet ya sometime.

Greeting and welcome to the site. This is definitely the BEST site on the net. I'm in Monroe (Lake Erie). I have never fished St. Clair but Brest Bay in Monroe area I know pretty good. I noticed you moved up here from Georgia? My wife asked "is he nuts?" (the older we get the less we like the cold) Ha! Ha! Her mom lives in Toccoa, GA.

Welcome to the Michigan section of Crappiedotcom. One thing I have learned over the last few years about this site vise others I have visited.... Other sites the people brag about catching fish, but when it comes down to it, they never seem to give up locations or tactics on how to catch them. It makes me wonder if they are actually catching fish. Here, we all establish a friendship, whether it be through comments, or actually meeting each other at outings. In the end, we give each other information because we have established those relationships.

It may not always be about Crappie because, "we all love to fish". It is nice to know that on this site alone, we have people in Northern Michigan (Crappie1 and 2, or Larry and Sandy), Southestern Michigan (MMaveal, Mike and Tiff) in Western Michigan (Skillet007 Kevin, ready2fish Jimmy, Hermin Eric, Yankeedoodler Don) in Central north michigan (slabsrus Frank)... and so on (sorry if I missed anyone) as the list goes on and on.

You can always ask about an area and someone will try and help you out. Perch, Crappie, Walleye, Trout, Salmon, smelt... you name it.

Getting to the question at hand..... KGALLA (Kent) lives in your location and fishes alot of the same waters. Although I have not fished that area for Crappie, I can tell you (from conversations with Kent) that the local Marina's are a hot spot for Crappie in the spring and summer. If you have a boat, getting in is easy. Try fishing all the docks and under the boats. If shore fishing, some of them are off limits, but you can gain access to alot of them. There is a Baitshop in the area that also has some hot spots for Crappies. Bridges and Pillons in the area are key in the spring and summer in that area. Also, as most can attest, I believe the Michigan Crappie state record came from that area??? I have heard alot about Stoney point over the years as well.

In the spring, look for any Canal in the area. The fish WILL come in those to spawn. As always, when you start seeing people lining those areas, take notice. If the fish come in those waterways to spawn, they are also in the areas that connect to those waterways.

I hope this information helps you a little.
