I believe it is the job of the boat captain who is "underway" to be cognacient of his surroundings. Atleast that is what was taught in the national Captain's Course. Glad to see everything turned out ok and the fishing was great. I think your kayak could use a roll of Christmas Lights! Or maybe some aircraft landing lights...... my point is: How many lights does one boat need for it to be seen? Navigation requires only two (bow and stern) I think you have more than that!!!

Even though the only requirement for canoes,kayaks, rowboats, etc in Michigan is a hand held flashlight or lantern, I still use multiple lights. I love my family, and fishing, (not always in that order ) too much to get killed in a boating accident.

I have been thinking of a kayak for a couple of years now. I have four lakes around me that I can only get on in the winter unless I have a kayak or canoe. Big crappies (and perch) in a couple of them. I hate missing out on that in the summer because I can't get my 16 footer in to them

I've been thinking about one of these or a small jon boat to access some of the canals and shallow bays around St. Clair.

I'm gonna veto that one. I don't think there is enough room for her Barbies and other toys she brings on my boat to keep occupied. Not to mention the fact that there would be no moving around! Age 6= ants in the pants
