circuit breaker on trolling motor

I wanted to get your input on a 12v 40 amp circuit breaker that is on my trolling motor.. I have been having issues with my trolling motor only wanting to work on 12 volt... I started checking things out and found that the 12/24 switch was bad...so i replaced it... it works on 24 volt for about 15 sec and then my circut breaker on on battery kicks out... could it just be weak? I have bought another circut breaker and will try it but wanted to see what yall thought

Breakers can change value and not work properly. How many lbs thrust is your motor? Did it use to work properly?

its a 74lb thrust 12/24 ...but the breaker i got wont work..so i will have to order one from skeeter

You need at least a 50 amp breaker for that motor.

really? ok well i will do some looking around and see if i can find it... should i change the one on the other battery out also with a 50amp?

What is the smallest lb thrust you think I can use for the boat? its a 19 foot skeeter but I would really like to have a foot control motor instead of the hand control

I would use at least a 70 lb thrust or bigger. Yes you should have a breaker on both batteries unless you get a newer motor.

thanks i will start searching ebay...the new breaker is doing the same thing..so it must be in the motor... i checked the wiring and no splices or connections except at the batery and the switch...so it almost has to be in the trolling motor... its only the 2 12 volt leg that is tripping...i think that is kinda weird..but o well iwanted a foot control anyways
