is the gas vent on the tank open? i'm just guessing. an air leak somewhere? pin hole in a line? might want to get a motor mechanic to clean the carb. put a can of seafoam in the tank.

    i'm out of ideas.

no, none of the above. If it is a fuel related problem, it is a faulty carb that needs replacing. Its too intermittent but yet predictable when it happens to be a fuel issue... but I could be wrong

You say "No, none of the above" Are you saying the tank vent screw is not open to let air in the tank? Check the cap on the tank there is a screw on top of the cap. Open it 1 or 2 turns. This must be open when running the motor to let air in the tank to help gas flow to the carburetor. If it is closed the tank will get a vacuum in it and the gas will not flow to the carburetor.

The vent is open. I said no, as none of the above [apply]. I changed the TStat tonight in hopes that the operating temp was a little to high due to a 7 year old stat. The motor (I've learned today) has a feature refered to as S.L.O.W. When the temp sensor closes, it shorts to ground letting the motor only run on 1 cylinder and limiting the rpm's to 2500. Before I changed the stat I ran the motor for 10 min and checked the temp at the top of the head, it was approx 160`f. After I installed the new stat it came down to 149`f. I'm hoping this takes care of it. I'll follow up in a few weeks to see if this did anything when I take it back out.

Sounds to me like you have a bad flux capacitor. :D
