Thread: Using dedicated deep cycle for cranking?

Put a good charge on it and run it.
If you are not comfortable with that, you could give that battery to me!
Sure, there is a difference in design and purpose, but it will work out just fine.

I hope not...I used my last one for 6 or 7 years. I now have a dual purpose for cranking.

I hope not, either .... since I'm using a Everstart Marine Group 24 to start my 90hp Merc 2strk, and have been for the last 5yrs. Most times I don't run the big motor a "whole lot" in a days fishing, but when put on the charger it's either already charged back up or only takes a few minutes until it's at full charge. The charger is a MinnKota onboard w/10amps per lead.

My motor recommends having 350CCA (465MCA) ... and this Everstart Marine G24 has 500 Cranking Amps.

I run deep cycles on my ski boat for years with zero issues. Need to change my cranking battery because of age and it will be deep cycle also.

I ran a deep cycle on my tracker because I had a anchormate tied into it. They are called a dual purpose because they will do both

sinkermaker, this one isn't labelled as a dual purpose like many are, it's a straight up deep cycle trolling battery.

My DC cranking battery is 9 years old, sticker says '08.
I reckon if it was going to do harm, I would know about it by now.

deep-cycle batteries can be used for engine starting but starting batteries should not be used for deep-cycle applications. A deep-cycle battery may have less cranking amps per pound than a starting battery, but in most cases a deep-cycle battery is still more than adequate for the purpose of starting an engine.
