MOUNTING TRANSDUCER

I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU PRO'WHAT TYPE PRODUCT DO YOU USE TO SEAL THE ATTACHMENT SCREWS WHEN MOUNTING THE TRANSDUCER TO THE TRANSOM OF A ALUMINUM BOAT? I SEEN A LOT OF DIFFERENT PRODUCTS, BUT NOT SURE WHICH REALLY WORKS THE BEST.

I would not call it professional but I like to bolt on a piece of heavy plastic or a treated board. I just cut something say 10" wide maybe 6" high and drill four holes to use like a 5/16 or so bolt with a flat washer on both sides and a lock washer also on the inside.I drill the bolt holes so that they pull the plate down evenly and they are far enough in that there is plenty of sealant around them. Then you can just use screws to fasten whatever you want. I just clean the boat with alcohol and then smear a coat of silicon on both pieces and then bolt it on ,wipe off the excess and let it setup. It would be easy to change it if I you ever have too but I never have.It allows you to change transducer types etc by just screwing it on . It adds strength in that area too. I have it currently on two different jon boats for I don't know how many years. I have a tendency to drag them on stumps and logs sometimes,the breakaway saves them but I like the extra strength for the transom section and being able to change transducers with out considering the water tight integrity.

Goop Marine - available at WalMart. I've done a few and never had it fail.

I purchase a polymer mounting board from Cabelas. I buy the pro series (big board that looks like a cutting board). I put my mounting holes above the water line and recess the screw heads into the polymer. If there are any rivets on the back of the boat, I mark them on the back side of the polymer and recess it to fit over them. If there was previously a transducer in place, I run new bolts in the existing holes, use 3m around the bolts and also fill the recess marks on the polymer. By adding this, it allows me to put as many attachments and holes in the back as I would like without putting holes in my boat.
