Any ideas on who has the best rates on Boat Insurance. MS Farm Bureau gave me a quote and then sent me a bill for 88 more bucks. I am going to cancel with them ASAP.

Nationwide gave me a good deal. I had another company but they had a 500.00 deductible with a 700.00 limit on accessories. So that means they pay 200.00 on a 1000.00 depth finder or trolling motor Cub48
I'm with Liberty mutual.
One interesting note on price. It really depends on the insurance company and what you have.
I am a member of another forum. Last year, a guy had his boat stolen from a storage facility. It was later recovered but stripped. He did have insurance however it was only for estimated value and not replacment cost. In other words, you have a $2000.00 fish finder that is 3 years old, they will only pay what they think it is worth. His misfortune helped a lot of us out.
In speaking with a guy that used to sell boats and now deals with financing of boats, he advised me to always ensure you get "underwater Obstruction coverage". This way, if you hit a stump, shallow bottom... etc you are covered. Keep receipts of everything you purchase on or in your boat. I know it sucks but it is the only way to prove you had something.
Also, there is a secondary company out there call "Blue water" They allow the purchase of additional insurance that covers towing of your boat to shore, storage of your boat in the event of an issue, your trailer and any issues with it, and engine repair. It is an add on warrenty (most likely only available with new boat purchases). Additionally, they offer what is called "the sportsman package". This is an aditionally "add on" warrenty for any bit of electronics you have in your boat. Fish finder breaks and it is out of factory warrenty, no problem, $25.00 deductable for a new one! I purchased both policies on my new boat and I am covered for 6 years above my normal boat, motor and trailer on package, and 5 years on all electronics on board. I paid a total of $1100 dollars (both together as one was 600 and one was 500). You blow up one fish finder and you paid for it. You burn up a motor, you have the piece of mind it is covered. These are in adition to my liberty mutal insurance.
I am not a salesman of boats, insurance or anything else. I provide this information from one sportsman to another in the hopes that no one has to go through what that gentlemen went through.
My liberty mutual insurance on my boat is run through my home owners premium and costs me around $350.00 per year.
I have OCD "Obsessive Crappie Disorder"
Farm Bureau gave me my best deal.....its for full replacement value too
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I had Progressive for years & switched to Geico several years ago (renters/boat/truck). Boat cost me 6K and I had it insured for that amount. Deductible is $500
Like everything else, the insurance cost goes up every year ... even though the value goes downGeico doesn't actually "insure" the boat ... Seaworthy Ins. Co. handles the policy (and they're a Berkshire Hathaway company) In 2012 the cost was ~ $160/year .... in 2014 it was ~$180/year.
I don't know if they're any better or worse than anyone else, as I've never had to file a claim.
I never have to, either !!
