    Default Speed control on Motorguide

All of a sudden my Motorguide 748v Power Plus will not allow me to adjust the speed control. The motor itself is working fine, the knob on the foot control to adjust the speed turns like normal however it will not adjust the motor out of the highest speed.

I am thinking that it is the pod (not sure what it is called but it's about as big around as a nickel on the underside of the foot control with a male end on it) but I am not familiar with the mechanics of this unit.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it? Thanks!

Are you sure it's a 748V and not the 784V. The 784V used a control board in the head and mosfet in the lower unit to obtain variable speeds. If yours is like this, then you have a control board failure. These control boards are no longer made and the motor, if you rest is in good shape, should be converted to digital. Let me know if I can help.

It is the 748v, I double checked. Was this built the same way as the 784v? If so, is the conversion worth it or is it more cost effective to simply buy another trolling motor?

Depends on thrust and shape of the rest of the trolling motor. If yours is a 12/24, and less than 65lbs, I would not suggest the upgrade.
