MinnKota Terrova iPilot steering prob Fixed with kudos to MinnKota.

It sounded like a coffee grinder when steering. So I took it to a repair center. They said they would have to replace the steering box and the electronics control board for about $450. On my way home I called MinnKota to find out if it was under warrantee as I had left the sales receipt 125 miles away at Sam Rayburn. Well I found out it was 28 days out of warrantee. My luck!!! Then in conversation with XXXX at MinnKota, he/she told me about how easy it is to replace the steering box and since it was so soon out of warrantee he/she said they would pay the shipping and give me 25% off on the steering box and that the other electronics should be ok. So I ordered and went back to get my trolling motor. This was on Monday afternoon. The next day I disassembled the t-motor and got ready to rebuild it. I took the steering box apart and found that the bottom bearing on the steering tube had failed. Thursday at noon the FedEx truck rolled up and delivered. About an hour later I tested my new steering box. It was easy and only cost me $102. Thanks MinnKota!!! Also, I now have all the necessary parts to rebuild the steering box if it happens again. I bet those bearings are stainless steel in the salt water models. It feels good to fix things yo-self!
